Tips For The Paranoid

Unplug
The moment you connect to the outside, bugs can come in and anything on your hard drive can be taken out
Upgrade to fiber
Traditional cables »leak« electromagnetic radiation, Fiber-optic cables don't unless they are bent
Use a scrambler
As long as you don't, you should treat e-mails like postcards. Assume that anybody with the knowledge and will can sneak a peek at the contents
Use your home PC
Contrary to what many seem to think, »your« computer at work does not belong to you. Your emploeyer has every right to monitor what you do with it
Use open source
Software that allows you to see the source code makes it possible to spot spyware
Use wires
Everything wireless is susceptible to intrusion
Pay cash
As soon as you swipe, information is stored about where you were at a certain location at a certain time
Change your name
»John Smith« is harder to keep tabs on than »Agamemnon Pointdexter III«
Keep your fridge offline
Any interactive device that feeds back to its maker is bound to keep a profile of your habits
Stick to maps
A GPS in your car might help you find your way, but it also enables operators to keep track of you
