The video sharing web site YouTube is based on Adobe Flash, so the quick and easy way to get it running is to download and install Adobe Flash Player.
But beware...
- Adobe Flash player is not Free software
- Adobe Flash player is not available for all operating systems/architectures
Luckily, there are other ways to watch YouTube videos, without using any proprietary software. It's quite easy.
First, you download the video file to your computer. Go to a site such as YouTube downloader and enter the YouTube address there. You will then get a link to the video file.
Save the video file as yadayadayada.flv and open it with a media player such as VLC media player or MPlayer. (VLC is recommended for inexperienced users.)
If you're using the Mozilla Firefox web browser, you might want to check out the extension Fast Video Download. It allows you to download videos even if they are embedded on an external site (eg. as a weblog).
You might want to save the videos even if you have Adobe Flash Player since many videos hosted on YouTube tend to be removed due to violations of copyright laws or YouTube's community guidelines.
Enjoy!
